Elegant Ways to Decorate Your Home for Fall

Fall is a beautiful time of year for brisk walks, apple cider, and cozy autumn coats. But when it comes to home décor, fall can also bring tacky Halloween trinkets. If you’re like us at The Suzy Goldstein Team and you prefer to keep your home looking elegant and sophisticated, those spooky knick-knacks are not the way to go. Here, we’ll share our favourite ways to beautifully decorate your home for fall.

Interior Decorations

We love seeing dining tables and entryways decorated for the seasons. In autumn, opt for foliage that suits the time of year: dried plants, sticks and twigs, and fall flowers. A vase full of orange and yellow mums, celosia, and/or tall grasses make the perfect centrepiece. For your kitchen island, fill a decorative bowl with apples, pears, acorns, gourds, or mini pumpkins.

Choose table-setting accessories in bolder, autumnal colours. For example, cloth napkins in burgundy, deep green, or gold. Look for different textures, like a burlap table runner.

In the living room and bedrooms, throw pillows and blankets are perfect for switching up your décor with the seasons. We love the variety of options that plaid blankets come in. Choose a colour palette that complements your design, but includes some of those deep fall colours like burnt orange and rust red.

Exterior Decorations

If you have little kids, carving pumpkins and setting them on your front porch is a fun family activity. However, if you are staging your home to sell in the fall or simply want a more elegant appearance, they aren’t the most luxurious accessory.

Instead, consider painting your pumpkins in complementary fall colours. One brilliant idea is to paint a large pumpkin in muted, sage green. Then, with number decals and cream-coloured acrylic paint, paint your address numbers. You could also stack your pumpkins on either side of the door creating a clear and stylish pathway to the front door.

What if you aren’t a fan of traditional fall colours? Pumpkins can be painted any colour you want, while still bringing an autumnal vibe. Some homeowners spray paint their pumpkins in metallic colours like bronze or rose gold. We’ve also seen pumpkins pained in fine blue and white China dinnerware prints and intricate floral patterns.

In your backyard, don’t put the patio furniture away just yet. The weather may be getting cooler, but with the right décor, your outdoor space is perfect for sipping chai lattes and enjoying get-togethers. You can do this by adding warm, wool blankets in plaid patterns. Place clusters of lanterns with candles around your patio or atop the table.
